In his diary on March 16, 1858 Shevchenko recorded: "Painted a portrait, not entirely successfully, Mykhailo Semenovich. The cause of the failure was first Maksimovich, and then Markovich. Very naive visitors. And they had not occurred saying that the wrong time visitor – worse than a Tatar".

In the paper Kalaushyn "T. Shevchenko in portraits and illustrations» [L., 1940, p. 150] erroneously dated 1859.
