Holy family

Under the image on the left recording by etching touch: after sketch by Murillo engraved Shevchenko 1858p; in the middle of the Cyrillic alphabet: Holy family.
Etching made by Murillo oil painting "Holy family", which is stored in the Hermitage [wood, 24 × 18 cm, inv. number 337].
In the diary, May 3, 1858 Shevchenko recorded:
"In the Hermitage met and became acquainted with the famous engraver Jordan. He had heard of my intention to do aquatint and offered me his services in this new reality for me. Pleased with his sweet, sincere suggestion, I walked twice all the rooms to choose a picture for the first test I have chosen art. After careful observation I stopped to sketch Murillo "Holy family".
Etching dated by this record, record on May 10, 1858 and Shevchenko inscription on one of the prints: To Afanasya Alekseevna Lazarevska a sign of deeply sincerity Shevchenko. 12 July 1858 year [Institute of Literature National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, fund 1, № 718].
Except this print, at the Institute of Literature stored a copy of the etching (inv. number 37), which have ink inscription by hand Shevchenko: 16 July 1858. To F. I. Chernenko on memory Shevchenko and Chestahivsky there were. On the back of this instance – autograph of poetry "Dream" ("In the serfdom wheat sting").
In the Taras Shevchenko National Museum also stored a test print mirror- reversed image of the first state. On its back – ink inscription by hand M. Ja. Makarov: Engraving work Shevchenko, gifted to me by V. M. Lazarevsky on memory after death Shevchenko. 16 March 1887 Nicholas Jakovlevych Makarov [Taras Shevchenko National Museum, inv. g – 663].

In 1911 copy of this etching exhibited at Shevchenko's exhibition in Moscow (Product, № 10), at the exhibition of works of art Shevchenko in Kiev (Product, № 84), in 1929 – at the exhibition of works of Taras Shevchenko in Chernihiv (Product p. 17th, № 7).
