About execution of this portrait of Shevchenko in his diary on September 30, 1857 recorded: "In anticipation of an intruder, the police chief, I offered a session to my good master Pavel Abramovich Ovsyannikov. The portrait was finished by two o'clock quite well".

As a portrait of Ovsyannikov first published by M. I. Matsapura ["New in the legacy of Taras Shevchenko", "Ukraine", 1951, № 8].
