In the literature is found with false dating: sometimes at the Academy of Arts [G. V. Ginzburg, Shevchenko and Briullov's school, "Proceedings of the IX Shevchenko Scientific Conference", K., 1961, p. 172]. A. Beskin the date of this picture 1838 – 1840 years, but also tolerate its execution in time of exile (1850 – 1857) [«Taras Shevchenko as an artist", "Art", 1939, № 2, p. 39].
In the Chestahivsky's list registered under number 69 with correct date, "The boy fell asleep on session" drawn by Kobzar Shevchenko in St. Petersburg in his workshop at the Academy of Arts in 1860".
G. P. Palamarchuk in the article "Corner of the artist" proves that posed for this picture Boris Sukhanov-Podkolzin, who in 1860 was a student Shevchenko ["Ukraine", K., 1961, № 9, p. 18].
The manner of drawing close to the same studio picture 'Still life" and other works of Shevchenko last years of his life.
