Taras Shevchenko. Self-portrait with a candle. [Peterburg]. [Not earlier than Jun] 1860. Paper, etching, aquatint 16.4 × 13; 22.5 × 16.2; (43 × 31.1 cm).

Below in the center of image on one of the details etched stroke author signature and date: Taras Shevchenko. 1860.

Etching is made after self-portrait 1845, whose location is unknown.

In the State Museum of Taras Shevchenko (Kyiv) saved two more of the same print etching previous state (inv. number g – 302 and g – 673). In Kiev State Museum of Ukrainian art print of this portrait remains with autograph draft version of the rhyme "Yaroslavna's Lament", the earliest version of which is dated June 4, 1860, that allows to specify a due date of the etching. At the back of engraving from the Kiev State Museum of Ukrainian Art placed in oval pencil sketch barely noticeable female portrait.

In this web gallery, it was decided to change the chronological place of the portrait and put it not for the year 1860 (of etching), but in 1845 (prototype implementation).
