Balakovo – town and landing on the left bank of the Volga River, located between towns Volsk and Khvalynsk.

Figure dates based on records in Shevchenko's diary for September 2, stating that ship stopped at night against the town Volsk, and for September 4 that night on the boat loaded firewood near the town Khvalynsk.
