Cherkasy – the former county town, where, according to Shevchenko himself, he was in custody from 18 to 22 July 1859 ["T. Shevchenko in the documents and materials", 1950, p. 229]. Here he wrote two poems – "For sister" and "Once stupid head" with author's dates 20 and 21 July. At that time was fulfilled also landscape "In Cherkasy".
