Below picture at the album sheet – ink inscription (possibly hand O. M. Butakova): The bay of the Aral Sea, where the fish came to spawn (work of Shevchenko).

On the back of the album's sheet left – pencil inscription and signature (hand C. Glazenap): From album A.I. Butakov S. Glazenap.

Name of picture established on the basis of Butakov's record:

"Bai Gubek – the only cap jutting out into the sea far then others… On it are two small coves depth of about 4 fathoms with sandy soil, one goes to the OSO, and the other on S. The first is remarkable in that the white limestone on the horizon all the water poured with spawn – presumably, in the spring the fish lay their spawn and then stuffed back into the incredible count" ["Day notes of navigation A. I. Butakov on the Aral Sea in 1848 – 1849 years", Tashkent, 1953, p. 21].

The expedition landed here 20.VIII 1848 and made surveys and measurements of cape and bay.
