Location of original is unknown. Description submitted by photograph, preserved in V. Tarnowski's Chernihiv museum of ukrainian antiquities, number 509, III, and is now in the Taras Shevchenko National Museum (inv. number f. – 62).
Bottom right one can read date written by Shevchenko hand 1849.
Photo pasted on paper, on the back of which ink inscription: Photo of portrait Thomas Werner drawed by Shevchenko in 1849 year.
Thomas Werner, a political exile in 1848 – 1849 with Shevchenko participated in the Aral expedition, and in November 1849 he returned to Orenburg, where he worked (as Shevchenko too) on the design of expedition materials.
