Lower left in the picture – inscription by etching stroke: Shevchenko. 1859. On the back in pencil inscription: Taras Shevchenko. Willow. etching.

Etching performed after sepia 1851 – 1852 years of the same name.

Date established on the basis of an inscription on one of the prints: For Natalia Aleksandrovna Khruschova 24 September 1859 Shevchenko [Taras Shevchenko National Museum, inv. g – 383].

Except this print in the National Museum of Taras Shevchenko kept three copies of the same etching various states of operation.

In the literature known as "Willow" [D. Rovinsky, Detailed dictionary of Russian engravers XVI – XIX cent., St. Petersburg, 1895, vol. II, p. 1176, № 18], " Willow among the rocks above the creek" [Catalogue of V. Tarnowski's Chernihiv museum of ukrainian antiquities, Vol. I, K., 1893, p. 12], "Willows over water" ["The Republican Shevchenko Jubilee Exhibition", catalog-guide, K., 1941, p. 69, № 373], "Mangyshlak landscape" [S. Raevsky, The question of attribution and dating of some sepia Shevchenko, "Visual Arts", K, 1941, № 4, p. 30].

D. Rovinsky erroneously stated that there is sitting figure on the right of etching ["Detailed dictionary of Russian engravers XVI – XIX cent.", St. Petersburg, Vol. II, p. 1176, № 18].

Previous storage of the specified instance: National Museum of Fine Arts ( Moscow), Gallery of pictures Shevchenko, Kharkiv.

In 1860 one of the prints exhibited at the Academy of Fine Arts [see A. A. Blagoveschensky, Shevchenko in St. Petersburg, " Historical Journal", 1896, v. 64, p. 799, "Pointer works of art exposed in the halls of the Imperial Academy of Arts", St. Petersburg, 1860, p. 27, № 30]; in 1929 – at the exhibition of works of Taras Shevchenko in Chernihiv (Catalogue, p. 18, № 9), in 1939 – at the Republican Shevchenko Jubilee exhibition in Kiev (Product, № 373).
