Right at the bottom – the ink signature and date: Shevchenko. 1847.

On the back the inscription in pencil: Srebdolska, Borzna county, Soroka village, Chernihiv province.

During his stay in Chernihiv province in January 1847 Shevchenko repeatedly visited landowners Srebdolsky on their farm Soroky. Here he performed, according to Belozersky, two portraits of J. G. Srebdolska, of which only one preserved [see "Kyivan Antiquity", 1882, Vol. X, p. 70].
