After returning Shevchenko from Sednev in April 1846 (30.IV he signed the receipt of pay as an employee "Committee for parsing of ancient acts") artist settled in Kyiv. As remembers O. Chuzhbynsky, he "conceived to depict all noticeable sights in Kyiv, the interiors of temples and interesting outskirts. Sazhin took up the some parts, and both the artist disappeared with the morning, if only weather allow" [A. Chuzhbynsky. Memoirs at Shevchenko. – St. Petersburg, 1861, p. 25].
At the end of September with the task of the commission Shevchenko left Kyiv for Podillja (see record an album from 3 Oct 1846). All these data are the basis for dating this and other contemporary drawings April – September 1846.
