On the back – reflection of sketches "Plaster casts." Sitter Stephen.

Figures drawed in one of three pages of landscape sheet bended in half, registered in 1861 by G.M. Chestahivsky at number 96 in the description of the Shevchenko's drawings, who were in his academic workshops. Later, the sheet was cutted by the line of bend.

At the center – light sketch (horizontal image) of sleeping woman (there is more processed). By it then drawed sketch of sitter Martian and a student of the Academy. Left barely outlined sketch "Sitter in Marsyas posture". Along the lower edge – plot outline of unknown composition.

Figures dating from the time of teaching Shevchenko from 1839 in nature class of the Academy of Arts [Taras Shevchenko: The documents and materials for the biography. 1814 – 1861. – K., 1982. – p. 19. – № 33] and were done no later than April 3, 1840, when oil etude "Sitter in Marsyas posture" was carried out.

The scientific description was provided in 1900 [Catalog of V. Tarnowski's Museum of Ukrainian antiquity / arranged by B.D. Grinchenko. – Chernigov, 1900. – T. 2. – p. 173. – № 169]

First commented and reproduced in 1932 by A.P. Novitsky named "Sitters. Sketch of Gladiator" [T. Shevchenko Complete Works. – [Kharkiv, 1932. – T. 8]. – p. 24. – № 200. – Tab. 129].

Reference with name "Academic class essay and easy sketch of lying women" [Novitsky Ol. Taras Shevchenko as a painter. – Lviv, Moscow, 1914. – p. 76. – № 576].

Storage areas: from April 1861 – property of M.M.Lazarevsky, later purchased by St. Petersburg's Ukrainian community, not earlier than July 1861 – A.O. Kozachkovsky, not later than 1875 came to V.P. Kakhovski; from 1891 Kakhovski family, not later than 1893 transferred to S.D. Brazol; since 1898 – a collection of V. Tarnowskі; from 1899 – V. Tarnowski's Chernihiv museum of ukrainian antiquities, 1925 – Chernihiv Historical Museum, 1933 – Gallery of pictures by T.H. Shevchenko (Kharkiv), from 1948 – State Museum of T.H. Shevchenko (Kyiv).
