On the back hazy ink inscription: I Bronzoufu fluy ziu mozigmi treitaj Lauffeit [Single bronze frame plane tomorrow to Friday. Laufert (bad deutsch)]. By assumption B.S.Butnyk–Seversky, the inscription was made by architect and collector J. Laufert (1811 – 1846) [Butnyk–Seversky B. On studying painting heritage T.H. Shevchenko in preparation for the academic edition of his works // Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the UkrSSR. – K., 1953. – № 6. – p. 12].
Work was first mentioned in 1911 with title "Sleeping woman" [Product Shevchenko's Exhibition in Moscow in the 50th anniversary of his death (1861 – 1911). – M., 1911. – p. 8. – № 70 (on display in reproduction)]. With the name "Odalisque" commented by K.V. Shyrotsky in 1915 [Shyrotsky K. Turkey in pictures Shevchenko // Collection Memory Shevchenko. – K., 1915. – p. 91 – 94]
Reproduced for the first time with name "Herself the mistress in the house" in 1925 [Shevchenko and his era: Collection I. – K., 1925. – Between the p. 196 – 197]
