First mentioned in 1956 in the article by K.V. Chumak and V.H. Kosyan [Chumak K.V., Kosyan V.H. Renaissance creations // Art. – 1956. – № 2. – p. 40].

Reproduced for the first time in 1961 (playing in the mirror) and is dated 1840 – 1842 [T. Shevchenko Complete Works: in 10 volumes. – K., 1961. – Vol. 7, bk. 2. – № 256]

Identified in 1984 as a sketch for painting "Catherine" [Yatsyuk V. Attributing of some paintings Shevchenko // Folk art and ethnography. – 1984. – № 2. – p. 23].

Dated by the time work on a painting.
