There are two outlines drawed over sketch: left – a peasant with a scythe, on top – a cow. Over mower – pencil inscription hand Shevchenko Danchych.

In the literature found under the name "Chopper and beginned picture» [«Product of ukrainian antiquity items. V. Tarnowski's collection», vol. I, Shevchenko, K., 1893, p. 8, № 1].

Image of farmer with a scythe is the basis for dating of the picture until May – start time of haymaking.
