Picture was made duging travel Shevchenko in Kyiv and Volyn provinces in 1846.

In the literature mentioned under the names: "The old building in the Ukrainian village" [«Product of V. Tarnowski's Museum of Ukrainian antiquity», vol. II, 1900, Chernihiv, p. 173, № 164], "Ancient house in Ukrainian village" ["Images of Shevchenko", vol. II, St. Petersburg, 1914, Table. VIII, № 2], "Old building" [A. Novitsky. Taras Shevchenko as a painter. – Lviv – Moscow, 1914, p. 52, № 157].

In all these sources incorrectly identified techniques – watercolor.

In 1929 exposed in an exhibition of works of T. Shevchenko in Chernihiv (Catalogue, p. 18, № 17).
